Susha & SuMay Walthamstow Wedding at William Morris Gallery
When Susha and SuMay reached out to me to photograph their wedding I was overjoyed - and not just because of how warm and kind they are as people. You see, I'm a Walthamstow girl born and bred, and the William Morris Gallery is very familiar to me. A beautiful, light-filled period property that oozes creative charm, it was the family home of Victorian Arts and Crafts founder William Morris. I spent many a school trip being told of this local hero's history — so photographing a gay wedding here felt genuinely special.
The day began at the couple's home, which was wonderful in its own right. Unlike more traditional wedding mornings, Susha and SuMay were both there getting ready together — and there was something really beautiful about that. No separation, no nerves apart — just the two of them with their closest friends and family, preparing for the biggest day of their lives side by side.
It was then a short walk to the Gallery and this popular couple got the rockstar treatment from neighbours wishing them well and covering them in confetti before the ceremony had even started. The warmth from the local community was something really special to witness.
After a heartfelt civil ceremony at the Gallery, the celebrations moved to Orford House Social Club in the heart of Walthamstow Village. The reception was joyful and culturally rich, featuring a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony and a dragon dance that brought the room to life. And then, as if the day couldn't get any more special — a gender reveal. Double celebrations, double the joy, and one very lucky baby already surrounded by so much love.
